libportmidi-dev software package provides library for real-time MIDI input/output, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libportmidi-dev
libportmidi-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libportmidi-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libportmidi-dev *
You will get with libportmidi-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
